Advance Reservations

This past week I received a number of emails from hotel guests that were very disappointed with their hotel experience. In one case, the traveler did not make an advance reservation and found hotels while traveling in a particular part of the country.
The city was very busy and he ended up staying in a sub-par hotel at a very high rate.

Many travelers feel that they are better off and get better deals, if they do not book in advance. That may be the case on the odd occasion in general that is not so. You are left to the whims of supply and demand and as in the case above, can pay far too much for a sub standard property and take on all sorts of risks.

In today’s environment, hotels make their best rates available in advance through online booking systems and often in their reservations centers. If you arrive at your reserved hotel and find that better rates are available, chances are they will change your rate. Should they refuse, complain and take your future business elsewhere.

Also, share your experiences, both good and bad, with other travelers and notify services such as ours. We contact the hotel and advice them of the comment and make notes in our database of hotels that we book online. We will not recommend a hotel or make it even available for bookings, if they have quality problems.
