In-Room Movies

In-Room entertainment or movies can be a great diversion when traveling and trying to relax in the hotel for a while. It can also be an irritant.
Just as on the Internet, where pornography is one of the larger segments, most of the movies watched in hotels usually are x rated. This presents an obvious concern while traveling with children, but can lead to numerous other embarrassing situations.

The vast majority of in-room movie systems allow you to disable these kinds of movies on request, however many people, including myself feel that it should be the other way round. Let the hotel guest add-on these features if they request them.

Or better still; don’t offer them at all. Just very recently Omni Hotels took the decision to eliminate adult movies from their in-room movie programming. As far as I can tell reaction in the hotel community is mixed, but I personally applaud them in their decision.

If you market to specific segments, be it leisure or corporate travel, why become greedy and make another few dollars on a movie sale, even if it compromises your very own standards.

Obviously at the end of the day, you the traveler make the ultimate decision. Find out what type of in-room entertainment is available and what options you have in disabling the service.
